Voted one of the top ten Tea Rooms in the UK by The Times, the ancient port and market town of Ulverston, is home to Gillam's - a family business since 1892. Doug and Shirley are passionate about their ‘tearooms of yesteryear’ style and their authentic Cumbrian recipes, lovingly home made to your taste using only the finest organic ingredients.
You can experience the town's unique character and old world charm on a bustling market day (Thursday and Saturday) where people still say good morning to each other! Then afterwards, meander down to Gillam's to keep warm by the cosy log fire or enjoy the beautiful garden (depending on the time of year) to take full advantage of the friendly atmosphere which greets you from the moment you step through the door. They are also fully licensed which makes their special Jazz nights even more enjoyable!
Stan Laurel was born in the town in 1890 with a commemorative statue providing a pilgrimage point for comedy fans. The nearby Laurel & Hardy Museum is well worth a visit!
Tea-time treats include Cumberland Fruit Teabread, fruit scones, and a range of alluring home-made cakes. The menu also offers an appetising selection of light meals, salads, oven-baked jacket potatoes, and hot and cold sandwiches. All the drinks served here are certified organic and include a fine selection of loose leaf teas, speciality coffees, award-winning traditional English soft drinks, beers, ciders and wines.
