In 1982, when on holiday and not looking for a property, we bought the empty shop on a whim. We made the house comfortable and re-opened in April 1983. The previous owner kept everything and we tried to follow him. We applied to retain the Post Office and were accepted. All this was a new experience for us as we were joiners and computer programmers. We also refurbished the petrol station and got an off-licence, which proved popular. After six years we built the present shop onto the house end - much better - and eventually turned the old shop into a café/coffee shop.

Sandwich trade started with builders at the local pub and grew by word of mouth. Soup and damson vinegar followed by customer demand and garden surplus. Eventually the petrol station closed through lack of demand and we now run the village shop, Post Office and café/coffee shop.
