Stephen Bore and Angela and Adrian Hyde met at the University of Surrey in the 1980's where they studied Hotel & Catering Administration. On graduating they pursued successful solo careers until, in November 1992 the three bought their dream hotel. Adrian is the (self-taught) Head Chef, Angela takes care of Housekeeping and Stephen oversees the Restaurant and Bar.

Set in 18 acres of gardens and nursery woodland, Overwater Hall is a fine example of an elegant and authentic Country House Hotel. Majestically high ceilings with intricate cornices are a feature of this lovely Georgian house, and the generous turrets at either end of the building help to create beautifully proportioned rooms.

As you would expect, breakfast at is a truly Cumbrian affair and dinner is undeniably one of the highlights of any stay at Overwater. Barley Bridge Fell Lamb is teamed with Lakeland Hill Lambs Haggis; Cumbrian-reared Gloucester Old Spot Pork is roasted with herbs from the garden and served with the Belly, braised, and a Ham Hock Terrine; Cumbrian Beef Fillet features every night in various guises; and Thirlmere Venison is accompanied by Wood Pigeon and a Rabbit Pie. Your hosts ask that a smart-casual dress code be followed in the evening, which they hope will enhance the enjoyment of your meal.

As for the rooms, you just know when a place feels right: when you feel immediately at home; relaxed and comfortable; welcome. Overwater Hall is one of those places.

Adrian and his team use the finest quality ingredients and make imaginative use of fresh, local produce wherever possible.

Rooms:
Each of the eleven tastefully furnished and decorated bedrooms is different, but all are equipped to the same exacting high standard. The Garden Room and Superior Rooms have the edge, space-wise, and also enjoy wonderful fell views. Junior Rooms are that bit smaller - yet still large enough to accommodate two comfortable chairs and a coffee table – and look out over the gardens. All eleven en suite bathrooms are luxuriously appointed with large double-ended baths and separate shower units. You are sure to appreciate the finishing touches in all of the rooms, too: fresh fruit and flowers, mineral water, fresh milk on the hot drinks tray, fluffy bathrobes and designer toiletries by Gilchrist & Soames.
