Hotel TerraVina is the vision of Gerard & Nina Basset, co-founders of Hotel du Vin. The couple have created their ideal hotel, a testament to chic hotel design, in their beloved New Forest.

Purchased in early 2007, they spent months carefully renovating and adding a contemporary twist, using the style and imagination of local craftspeople. An ‘open’ kitchen, inspired by the Basset’s love of California wine country, creates a splendid environment for ‘social’ dining.

The food is superb but it’s Gerard and his wines that really set Hotel TerraVina apart from the rest. In addition to his restaurant expertise, Gerard is a well-recognised wine specialist. In addition to being the World’s Best Sommelier, he is a Master Sommelier, Master of Wine and has a Wine MBA award, as well as many other accolades. He is also an expert in sabrage, the art of opening a bottle of Champagne using a sabre! Little wonder, therefore, that the Wine Events at Hotel TerraVina are always so popular.

After qualifying from Westminster Hotel School, Nina started her career in Paris and then on returning to England, went to work at the famous Chewton Glen Hotel (where she and Gerard met). She went on to become the youngest AA Hotel Inspector (at the age of 21) and left to help set up the first Hotel du Vin in 1994 in Winchester.

Dining:
The stylish, ‘sexy’ restaurant is a place that epitomizes dining out in the sunshine state. One side of the restaurant opens out onto a wonderful veranda for al fresco dining when the weather is warm. If not, the wood burning stove creates a warm and cosy environment. Fresh, free-range and organic produce from local New Forest suppliers is used wherever possible, cooked with distinct flavours.

Rooms:
Luxury chic, quirky style, each of their eleven rooms has its own special charm. There are tea making facilities with fresh milk and, oh joy, an espresso coffee machine in each room, as well as a mini-bar, a laptop safe, wireless internet access (no charge) and internet cables, voice mail telephone system, air conditioning, an iron and a hairdryer. All the bathrooms have deluge rain showers, fluffy bath robes, oversized fluffy towels and rubber ducks. The toiletries are made from organic, locally picked Lavender and the fragrance is lovely.
