Stephen Bore and Angela and Adrian Hyde met at the University of Surrey in the 1980's where they studied Hotel & Catering Administration. On graduating they pursued successful solo careers until, in November 1992 the three bought their dream hotel. Adrian is the (self-taught) Head Chef, Angela takes care of Housekeeping and Stephen oversees the Restaurant and Bar.
Set in 18 acres of gardens and nursery woodland, Overwater Hall is a fine example of an elegant and authentic Country House Hotel. Majestically high ceilings with intricate cornices are a feature of this lovely Georgian house, and the generous turrets at either end of the building help to create beautifully proportioned rooms.
As you would expect, breakfast at is a truly Cumbrian affair and dinner is undeniably one of the highlights of any stay at Overwater. Barley Bridge Fell Lamb is teamed with Lakeland Hill Lambs Haggis; Cumbrian-reared Gloucester Old Spot Pork is roasted with herbs from the garden and served with the Belly, braised, and a Ham Hock Terrine; Cumbrian Beef Fillet features every night in various guises; and Thirlmere Venison is accompanied by Wood Pigeon and a Rabbit Pie. Your hosts ask that a smart-casual dress code be followed in the evening, which they hope will enhance the enjoyment of your meal.
As for the rooms, you just know when a place feels right: when you feel immediately at home; relaxed and comfortable; welcome. Overwater Hall is one of those places.
